Oregon State Senator, District 25

Hello,
2010 Special Session is here.
In many ways, the challenges presented this session are unprecedented. Not a member in this building has seen unemployment numbers so high, or the people of Oregon so concerned about making ends meet. Each and every day the people of Oregon who have been affected by this global recession have been in our thoughts. Their challenges are our own.
This is why during the 2009 session we focused on meaningful policy that helps Oregon families stay afloat, find jobs, and keeps the services they rely on intact. I look to build on theses achievements this February.
Much of my work for 2010 will focus on economic recovery and helping small business, protecting the middle class, keeping schools open, and improving health care. I will serve as Chair of the Health Care Committee, and member of Human Services and Rural Health Policy Committee, and Veterans' Affairs Committee.
The legislation that I will work on includes: SB 1003, an association health plans bill. This bill will allow recipients to attain more affordable health care within association health plans. SB 1042 will take away the state preemption on tobacco tax. There will also be several health care related bills: HB 3642, SB 1046, and SB 1047.
Challenging times demand leadership and action. With many looking to the government for help and support in their daily lives, we can deliver reassurance of a better tomorrow. I look forward to bringing thoughtful policy to the legislature this session, which will improve the lives of all Oregonians not only now, but for future generations to come.
With warmest regards,
Laurie
